Has bad brand advice burned you in the past? Are you worried that branding is more style than substance?
Getting unstuck and getting down to work on your personal brand may seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. There’s a lot of unhelpful, off-the-shelf advice out there. It’s hard to know what to listen to and what to shut out.
Here are some questions to ask yourself:
1. What do you want from your brand? Looking to attract new clients, establish yourself as a thought leader, start your own business, get promoted, or strike out on your own? Goals will drive your branding strategy.
2. What are you passionate about? What sets you apart from others? What is your “unique value proposition”?
3. Who is your ideal client, decision-maker, influencer, or gatekeeper? Who do you want to talk to?
4. What are others in your niche doing? Where are the gaps? Where is the opportunity?
5. Who are you? What do you stand for? Do you have a clear and compelling brand message?
6. Which social media platforms, websites, or channels are most relevant to the people you’re talking to? Where do you need to be?
7. Are you visible? Are you responding to posts, joining conversations, and fostering new relationships?
As you think about these questions, remember that branding is an ongoing process of growth, engagement, and adaptation.
Great brands evolve over time. And so will you.
